At Lighten Up Therapies,  my hope is to find a way to engage the entire “Beingness” of my clients. I truly believe that my role is to be an educator and a questioner in the process of awakening into wholeness and comprehensive health. This is often best served through exploration into the mind body & spirit connection

Mind Body & Spirt

Massage can be an experience where you just come into relax.  Some clients have a difficult time quieting down with their work and busy schedules.  The best thing for them to do is close their eyes and enjoy. Massage can increase circulation, lymph flow, relax muscles, lengthen the connective tissues and balance the body’s systems.

are other benefits to Massage Work too.  Massage is a field that has grown wide and deep.  There is Medical Massage, Swedish Massage, Thai Stretching, Lymphatic Massage, along with many other specialty areas.  Massage Therapists often get pulled into a certain direction depending on their love for the work and their own proclivity towards the various modalities of healing.  To be a Massage Therapist in most states, one has to take Continuing Education before renewing their licenses.  This is good news to our clients because it keeps us on top of all the new developments and expertise out in the field.  Education helps us to keep doors open so that we can introduce new techniques, understand medical issues, and be aware of the ethics involved in being a bodyworker.  With this said,  I have taken the path of exploring the Mind Body & Spirit Connection with myself as a practitioner and with my clients in order to enhance quality of life.  This does not mean that I see myself as a psychotherapist because I do not.  Education is more my focus. However, I do have a lot of experience working with clients who bring up physical, emotional and spiritual issues.  I don’t give advise, but I do follow my client’s own body intelligence and support them in finding their own truth for the most part.  I trust that we each have a connection to our own Source, and my job is to support self-discovery and deeper contact at the client’s request.  My training at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing and the Hakomi Institute have taught me to allow the organic process of bringing awareness into the present moment so that the mind can still enough to bring forth more spaciousness and opportunity to step outside of tension and conflict on many levels.  Touch is one of the best ways to do this, especially once trust is established and the sensations of the body are changing the brain’s perception of history to the present moment.  When we feel safe and at ease in our bodies, it is easier to address other issues that arise.  A professional Massage Therapist will ask you what you need to feel comfortable and to build a confidential and trusting environment for you to relax and touch into the calm waters of your “Being”.

I find that it is helpful to listen to my client’s wishes when they visit.  I usually take an additional 15 minutes for intake on the first session so that I can hear their history and understand their concerns.  I like to know what has been helpful in the past and what they didn’t like.  It’s important to respect a client’s feelings and to engage where he/she feels comfortable.  Once this happens,  the mind, body & spiritual issues naturally begin to unfold and open into a place of more light and clarity. So when the intake is complete,  I invite the session to be about what is happening in the moment.  What this does is to allow the mind to take in a new awareness, even when the brain is thinking about all the different things that it does.  By Witnessing, Experiencing and being Curious during a session, the light inside becomes more transparent and it’s easier to feel healthier and to make better decisions about life and how one wants to use their energy.  The massage is helpful in bringing more attention to the cellular awareness and discovering the tensions and the role they play in your life.   I like to think that our issues have a positive role in helpful us to see things that we may avoid in order to help us resolve past issues whether physical or otherwise. This type of bodywork is meant to Awaken the mind body & spirit Experience.  It aligns clients with a more holistic approach to life.

Either way…  a massage to relax and fall asleep or a bodywork session to awaken and enliven the senses, Massage can be very beneficial to you and your evolving Spirit.  Our Spirits are living in these human bodies… transformational tools for our hearts, psyches and physical health.  Be proactive in your Self-Care and your quality of life can be much better.  Whatever is happening in life can be eased by feeling good with yourself.

Warmly,

Stop Working So Hard and Get a Massage

Do you admire the American Work Ethic?

For the most part, people work hard in so many parts of their lives.  It makes sense as our work supports us,  gives us a sense of accomplishment, and allows things to get done.

The Opposite of Work is Doing Nothing.  How do most people perceive “doing” nothing?

Do you know how to relax and receive the wonders of life?  Is it difficult to empty your thoughts and sense into the wholeness of your life?  When you try to relax, do your thoughts tell you that you are lazy, you need to get moving, or are being self-centered by doing nothing.

In life, good health means being able to integrate opposites into balance.  If you work alot, then rest a lot. If you aren’t active, then pick up an activity that brings you joy.  But for those who have overactive thinking and doing, it is helpful to learn how to slow down and take a break.  Allow the nervous system to relax and balance the whole entire body.  Massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Structural Integration and Energy Therapy can all be helpful in discovering new ways to break old patterns of “overdoing”.  A Licensed Massage Therapist can help you to unwind, settle down, feel more deeply, and find more balanced footing.  When you learn to relax, the whole world becomes your oyster.  You are able to receive the fruits of your labor, it’s easier to see all the support and love that is coming your way, your cells get to take in the nourishment they need in order to stay healthy.

Massage is touch that listens and does… it integrates and provides rejuvenation.

What if you stopped thinking of receiving with any judgement?  Wouldn’t it be nice to take in what your mind, body & spirit call for?  At Lighten Up Therapies,  we offer a variety of different treatments with a focus of Craniosacral Therapy in order to help you feel optimal in your daily living.  Craniosacral Therapy is a light touch of bodywork that focuses on the brain and the spine through palpation of the Cerebral Spinal Fluid.  By monitoring the cranial bones and other areas of the body, and with a gentle holding, Craniosacral Therapy can reduce stress and help you to find your center again. Craniosacral Therapy is easy to add in with Deep Tissue Massage or Energy Therapy.

Stop Working So Hard.  Life is a precious gift and no regrets are necessary when it comes to your health and wellbeing.

Allow Yourself to Relax

Massage and vitamin D

Being a Massage Therapist,  I listen to the concerns of my clients.

Lately, one of the things that I have heard from some of my elderly clients is that they are facing some real challenges like: osteoporosis, hypertension, and auto-immune symptoms.  When this is the case, they generally feel imbalanced, have intestinal concerns, and fall into virus illnesses for long periods.  I do recommend strongly that they make a commitment to further speak to their physician if problems continue because sometimes it could be an easy issue to resolve like taking the correct dosage of Vitamin D.

People over 50 can benefit from knowing their Vitamin D level. Vitamin D balances the blood and helps metabolize calcium and phosphorous. Lately I have been reading that when the correct dosage is taken that the immune system functions much better. Some of the articles also state that it can help prevent cancer.

Only certain food groups such as certain fish and cheeses contain Vitamin D, so it is important to look for foods that are enriched if you are low.  When you visit your physician, and you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, ask that he/she  check your Vitamin D levels.  If you are off,  he/she will prescribe the best dosage for you. Another easy way to receive Vitamin D is to take a step outside and enjoy the sun. Vitamin D is taken in this way.

Make sure you don’t go off on your own and over supplement.  Too much vitamin D can have some negative effects such as:  kidney stones, calcium deposits, nausea and confusion.

While all personal information is shared in the massage room, I like to share trends that show up in the massage room that are easy to help.  While my job is to help and support through massage touch and energy therapy, many of my clients educate me on what works best for them.  Balanced Vitamin D levels seems to have shown positive results!

So if you are in the over 50 crowd,  and feeling a little out of sorts, make sure that you discuss with your physician all your symptoms and ask about Vitamin D.
