Craniosacral Therapist

Yes Craniosacral Therapy!

How can Craniosacral Therapy help you?

The best answer that I can think of is that you want to feel good again.  If you are feeling stressed, if your body is in pain, or if you have been in a terrible accident, Craniosacral Therapy can help.  I have treated people who have experienced great results who have come in with anxiety, Traumatic Brain Injury & Concussions, car accidents, TMJ,  back & neck pain, just to name a few conditions.  The major reason that I have success helping people as a Craniosacral Therapist is because I use a method that is so gentle, that the body welcomes the touch.  I don’t have to force my work through layers of fascia. Rather, my hands listen to what the body already knows  I trust that it can unwind painful patterns by using craniosacral techniques that are supportive and precise.  I believe we want to heal, and that having a compassionate presence helps move that process through naturally.  It feels to me like I hold a flexible yet centered point for my clients to re-organize around.  It works for me as a therapist, and it works for them as clients.

I have been practicing bodywork for 20 years, and Craniosacral Therapy since 2003.  During this time, I have studied and worked with advanced Craniosacral Therapy techniques, SomatoEmotional Release, and emphasized brain and spine related work in my work practice.  What I have witnessed at times, is nothing short of a miracle.  In 10 sessions, I have seen clients who have come in with fogginess, depression and pain get up and resume extraordinary lives.  Now I don’t guarantee this, but it is possible.  The people who have shown me the most success are those who are committed to their healing practice,  those who are open to change, and those who can quietly take in the work, and express deeper thoughts, feelings and sensations as they show up during the session.  This is because we are each whole.  And when the mind, body & spirit connecting get tangled up, they need to be sorted out to tap back into the whole essence of the individual.   When we connect to the deeper essence of life, great things can happen.

I don’t know that any one therapist is a Master in their own right.  It is the client that has the power to heal.  What you want to find in a Craniosacral Therapist is  someone who has faith that your own “Inner Wisdom” who can show you the way back to health and wellbeing.  As a Craniosacral Therapist, it is my job to use this model and all the techniques that I have learned to help you self-correct any dysfunctional patterns that show up.  As you let go, the healing has begun.

I trust the Central Nervous System to communicate all of it’s know how as we set the stage for deep release, better balance, more vitality, and emotional clearing if necessary.

If you looking for a Craniosacral Therapist, you can see my profile on www.Upledger.com.  Look for me in the Columbus, Ohio.  If you live elsewhere and you would like a reference, I’d be glad to help you sort through the website.  Craniosacral Therapy is a humble service.  We practice from a neutral place to help clients to find their own way.

Suffering from back pain?

Is back pain stopping you from getting things done in your life?

Approximately 80 % of  adults aged 30-60 in the US have reported back pain according to MTJ magazine.  The pain can start out as mild, but if left untreated, can end up being severe, keeping you from work or doing the things that make you happy.   Why not be proactive and take good care of yourself now before things escalate?

Life takes us each on our own unique journey’s.  What causes one person to develop back pain symptoms may be totally different than other.  What can be said from my perspective after working about 18 years in massage and bodywork is that typically what primarily causes  back pain is a misalignment around the structure of the spine.  Something is out of balance. If the structure can be addressed at first signs of trouble, the easier it is to bring back healthy posture.

As a myofascial therapist, it is easy to discern between  healthy and unhealthy tissues through palpation.  The healthy fascial tissues bounce back and feel hydrated, soft, flexible and differentiated.  The unhealthy tissues often feel stiff, lumpy, dehydrated, and stuck.  So until the client gets into the massage room,  it is difficult to guess how to treat.  We need to allow the body to give us the necessary information to support the healing process.  That is because we need to see and feel where there are restrictions, rotations and other points of stress in the body. Planes of tension can be coming from anywhere based on how each person moves in relationship to gravity and their center. Thousands of spinal nerves exit the spinal cord that can become impinged reaching out into other parts of the body, and the root of the pain must be discovered.    Who knows the story of how the fascia, spine and other body systems have evolved into a pain pattern?  It can be complicated. But while the therapist may not know the total picture, the intelligence of the body does.

With Craniosacral Therapy,  the therapists work with clients by trusting the “Inner Physician” within.  Now to some people, this idea may cause some doubt.  They may have never considered that the cellular tissue holds onto traumas and stress patterns as well as the possible resolution which can be communicated to the Craniosacral Therapist through dialogue.  Yet-basically we are human beings of habits. Habits that can stay if they keep us healthy or habits that can be let go if they have become a hindrance.  Our bodies are wise and do in fact have a lot to say about us and how to feel better.  It is the job of a Craniosacral Therapist to help the client journey and self-discover and self-correct patterns that no longer serve overall health.

The first thing a Craniosacral Therapist will do during a session is “listen” to the tissues, the fluids and evaluate what is going on.  What this means, is there is no routine, but in fact a formulated plan based on what the body is saying.  We follow this plan from one moment to the other, while melding and helping the body to release adhesions, restrictions, and disorder.  The plan will change constantly as the body starts to shift and open.  Sometimes this means that we will be working directly with the Craniosacral System, and other times, we will focusing on fascia, or monitoring bone movements.  Ultimately, we dance with the releases of the body until pain diminishes, and hopefully dissolves.   Craniosacral Therapy   can be very helpful in release back pain.  And it is also very gentle, yet profound.

Craniosacral Therapy has been around for many years, but many people have yet to hear of it.  It does fall under the license of massage therapy, but it was founded on the work of a doctor of osteopathic medicine.  So I am taking this opportunity to share the work of Dr. John Upledger, of the Upledger Institute to see how it may help you.  As a licensed Massage Therapist, I have found the Craniosacral Therapy along with Structural Integration to be very beneficial in helping many of my clients to release back pain and so much more.

If you are living in the Columbus Area  (located near New Albany), and would like to talk more about how to release your back pain symptoms, please feel free to call with a free 15 minute phone consult.

Back Pain

Lower Back Dysfunction can cause back pain and suffering.

How many things have you tried to find resolution to your pain?

Back Pain Massage

Relieve Pain Symptoms

If you really want to feel better,   it’s important to look long-term and holistically.  I know that people want to find a quick fix- but that usually is not the best approach to healing.  I also know it is easier for most people to go to the doctor and only get prescriptions to relieve pain- but maybe there is a better way that will truly address your real issue.

Engaging in an integrative program will help you to get to the core of the problem to restore better health and function.

Is your life worth feeling well?

Let’s begin with the obvious.  Pain is the body’s way of saying, “something is wrong and I am out of balance.”

In particular, when the back is hurting- most likely there is some type of lesion interrupting the flow needed to nourish and support the spine and all the related organs in that area. When the tissues lose their nutrients, the connective tissue tends to dry out and get lumpy or adhered. The spinal cord which is composed of the vertebral bodies and paired sensory and motor nerves that are associated can become hyper-sensitive, hypertrophic,  and hyper-irritable. Voila- a triggered nervous system igniting the sympathetic system with constant bombardment.

So what does this mean for you?

If you want to to find not only long term relief from back pain,  but want to take it a step further to truly moving easier and feeling more vital and alive,  it takes a commitment to make changes in your life.  Speak to your doctor and come up with an all encompassing health plan.  This means exercise, diet and finding a healing team to support you. Working with the fascia and the nervous system is one of the best things you can do to yourself to reverse misalignment issues. By engaging in a 10 series of Structural Integration with Craniosacral Therapy, you can optimize your posture and dis-impact/decompress bones that are causing dysfunctions. Normalizing and releasing adhesions and lesion patterns will bring back your line and feelings of relaxation. As the connective tissue softens and hydrates, you will find yourself feeling more space and opening throughout your whole body.

We all want to feel our best. The challenge is whether you want to stand behind the choice of wellness.  In most cases, unless there has been a recent accident, it takes years for pain to become unbearable.  Give yourself some time and the care you need to turn things around.  Miracles can happen, but be in the process of healing and the wisdom of your body will show you the way.

Chronic Back Pain? Help is Available in Columbus Ohio.

It takes years to find yourself in chronic back pain.

Many people think back pain comes from pulling a certain muscle or moving wrong. Most likely your structural alignment has been out for a while and your muscle groups are not balanced.  Back pain is born through the way that we habitually move our bodies and the consequences of our physical action then take on certain rotations, contractions and dysfunctional patterns.  When the back begins to spasm,  that is usually the tip of the iceberg that lets you know that you need help in healing prolonged unhealthy postural patterns.

Build a Holistic Plan to relieve back pain for overall health and wellbeing.

I know…I know… that most people want to find a “fix” and feel better immediately when their backs hurt.  Who wants to live with back pain?

It is possible to go in for a massage session, a few physical therapy appointments, see a chiropractor or to get a prescription from your medical doctor to ease the pain.  These can all be helpful.  However,  is this what is going to help you live pain free in the future?

When any illness or pain calls you to bed, it is helpful to take the time to inquire into your self-care.  Ask yourself,  “How am I eating?”,  “Am I sleeping well?l”, “Do I get enough exercise?”, and “Am I dong whatever I need to do to feel healthy and vital?”  Do you realize the importance of putting your health first?

With our busy lifestyles, there are not many people who can answer yes to all of these.  So if you want to feel better, it is important to begin to prioritize your health.  And realize- that it took you some time to get into illness and/or pain and it may take a commitment to long-term exploration to re-connect to your wellness.

As a Craniosacral Therapy bodywork and healer,  I do get a lot of people who come in for one or two sessions and they do get relief for sure.  It’s easy to move into the back  fascial tissues and relieve the tension there. The clients are happy for a while.  But whatever relief you get there is most likely temporary, even with fascial work when it is only applied locally.  From my perspective after 15 years in the business of relieving pain, in order to feel health success, the people who dedicate themselves to a comprehensive health plan are the ones who walk away pain free longterm and able to do the things that excite them.  Clients who are proactive and even those who come in after an injury benefit best when they value their own health enough to do whatever it takes to find alignment on all the levels of their wellness. When we change our thoughts and bodies,we change the way we experience life.

So if you are facing chronic back pain, allow that be a signal to you that it would be a smart idea to holistically set your intention to creating a “health plan” to get better overall.  Clean up your diet, decrease your stress,  find an experience bodywork and commit to some long term goals to improve your sense of wellbeing. If you don’t care about your health, who will?

Life styles are based on the choices we make day in and day out.  We are creatures of habit, so start slow and make small decisions that are easy to change.  This is not an all or nothing situation unless you are very ill.  You’ll be surprised if you pace yourself and find the right support team how much better you will feel!

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therpay (CST) is a light touch approach in bodywork that invites profound change and improvement into your life. It releases deep tensions to relieve pain and dysfunction while improving whole body health and performance. A seasoned therapist begins by gentle listening to different areas of the body in order to monitor the craniosacral fluid’s rhythm that is flowing around the Central Nervous System.  It is possible to get a sense of where the flow is strong, weak or out of balance.  As she follows the listening, she can move toward the source of the dysfunction and help to rebalance the problem areas.  The therapist is also trained to gather information within the fascia, a connective tissues that wraps around the body and interconnects as a web throughout the body. By using both hands to re-educate the memory of tissues, the body starts to remember a more healthy and relaxed state of being.

Great for relieving neck and back pain.

What are the benefits of Craniosacral Therapy?

First and foremost, Craniosacral Therapy balances the nervous system.  For people who hyped up and have a difficult time relaxing,  they will generally notice a deep letting go of tension and stress.  On the other side of the coin, people who are tired and find themselves with low energy often feel more vital and sharp. By bringing the body back into balance, it resets itself to operate more efficiently. Because the Central Nervous System is engaged with the rest of the body, CST is helpful in other areas as well.  some of the conditions that CST address are:

  • ADD/ADHS
  • Scoliosis
  • Central Nervous System Disorders
  • Infant and Childhood Disorders
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Migraine and Headaches
  • Stress and Tension Related Disosrders
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • TMJ
  • PTSD
  • Orthopedic Problems
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Coordination Challenges
  • Balances out Emotional Feelings
  • Autism
